Honorable Mention
Sawdust Ghosts
Julius (Michael Sottak)

Dad, you wouldn't recognize Conway now;
endless traffic, new buildings.
Our place hasn't changed much.
After sanding down pine-plank floors
all day long, we looked like sawdust ghosts.
You laughed when you looked at me,
though you looked just as bad.
You gave me my first beer that night
and we talked, man to man.
Later, we walked downtown to the theater.
The town quiet as falling snow.

Twenty years later,
that night is more vivid
than whatever I did last night,
but everything has changed;

I have to close my eyes
to be with you.
